Tutorials and Tutors

St Mary's provides a comprehensive tutorial programme based on small group teaching and study groups as well as individual consultations if required. The Tutorial Programme supplements and extends university teaching to help students reach their full academic potential.

Tutorials are held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, before dinner (5.15pm) and after dinner (7.30 and 8.30pm) in the excellent teaching and study facilities afforded by the Academic Centre. A wide range of tutorial subjects are offered and all first year students are expected to participate in the tutorial programme provided by the College with tutorial assistance available to later year students on request.

Tutorials enable students to discuss any areas of difficulty as well offering an opportunity to engage with the subject material at a deeper level. Tutorials connect students who are enrolled in the same faculty and subject areas with each other and are a natural starting point for study groups and informal peer support networks.

St Mary's is proud of our academic tradition and we are committed to assisting our students to maintain these high standards. Each year we expect 70% of student grades to be H3 or better – in Semester One this year 80% of first year student's grades were H3 or above and the average grade for the first year students was H2B. The tutorial programme, study weeks, Faculty Dinners, Residential and Academic Tutors, Student Mentors and academic seminars all contribute to our students' success.
